Often described as the most romantic country in the world, France is famed for its beautiful cities, rolling countryside and exquisite cuisine. A land of vineyards, elegant chateaus, spectacular ski resorts and beach-lined Mediterranean coastline, this historic nation epitomises charming, cultural chic.
Home to some 66 million people, France is bordered by Andorra, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Spain and Switzerland. Its relatively large size means it enjoys a range of different climates; from the snow-capped peaks of the French Alps (which is home to Europe's second highest point, Mont Blanc) to the palm-fringed beaches of the Côte d’Azur.
Famed for its wine and cheese, much of France's countryside it made up of farmland and wineries. Its capital, Paris, is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and renowned for its numerous art museums - including the Louvre - as well as its trendy café culture.
