Land of tropical beaches, lush rainforest and rapidly developing urban areas, Malaysia is one of the culturally richest countries in Southeast Asia. Partly on a mainland peninsula and partly on the island of Borneo, the country is known for its abundance of wildlife (including orangutans) and colonial heritage. A predominantly Muslim country, there are also plenty of religious sights and contemporary cities.
Bordered by Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia, Malaysia is home to some 30 million people. The vibrant capital Kuala Lumpur is an international hub, known for sleek Petronas Towers, verdant parks and a lively foodie scene. The northern east and west coasts are dotted with thousands of palm fringed islands, while the central regions are known for hill-top villages and traditional tea plantations.
Malaysian Borneo is home to misty mountains and some of the world's best wildlife spotting opportunities. Cameras at the ready - this is one of the most beautifully diverse nations on earth.
