Spain is a land of dramatic scenery; from the spectacular Sierra Nevada and the timeless majesty of Granada's Alhambra to Barcelona's beach scene and Bilbao's art galleries. Stretching from the cooler climes of the Basque country down to the white sands of the Balearics, there's a lifetime of places to explore.
Home to around 47 million people, mainland Spain is bordered by France, Andorra, Portugal and Gibraltar. Although the official language is Spanish you're likely to hear other co-official languages in different regions, including Basque, Catalan, Galician and Aranese. The capital city, Madrid is home several museums including the Museo del Prado which contains one of the world's best collections of European art.
Sun-seekers head to the south during the summer season with the likes of Marbella and Ibiza attracting beach loving party-goers. Around inland cities like Seville you're more likely to catch traditional flamenco dancing while nibbling tapas.
