Vienna hits six weeks of cultural high notes with a packed programme of stage, musical, dance and opera performances during its internationally acclaimed festival.
The Vienna Festival is one of the highlights of the cultural calendar. It lasts for around five to six weeks in May and June, with around 200,000 visitors arriving each year to view and admire the wonderful performances and exhibitions. The Vienna Festival traditionally kicks off with an open air concert held in front of City Hall.
There are usually performances of contemporary stage art including drama, dance and opera, as well as series of concerts in the Vienna Konzerthaus.
This festival began in post-war Vienna as a demonstration of the city’s ‘will to survive’ and was meant as a celebration of the beauty of Viennese culture after the ravages of war. The Vienna Festival is an event you definitely don’t want to miss.
