Peachy-keen for a festival? Join locals in Shanghai as they celebrate Shanghai's annual peach blossom season at the iconic Peach Blossom festival, one of the most recognised and traditional events in the city.

During spring, particularly the months of March and April, thousands of acres of peach trees are in bloom and people celebrate the occasion in the Nanhui District. Locals believe the plants symbolise life, growth and prosperity which is why the peach trees are significant to the Chinese. The event has also proved popular with tourists over the years, resulting in a number of planned events and shows taking place during the month.

Traditional Chinese cuisine is on offer for the peckish and there's even some wacky pig races to witness too, as well as a number of performances and musical shows, all providing a variety of entertainment. Make yourself a picnic and head to one of the many parks in Shanghai that will give you some Insta-worthy photographs that could even knock Coke-sipping Selena Gomez off the top spot of most liked photos.

Visit Nanhui Peach Village if you like the hustle and bustle of crowds or Wangting Peach Orchard, a recent addition to the peach blossom line-up, if you want to sample traditional delicacies and listen to folk music. Or, if you're really keen, take the free shuttle bus service that will let you visit even the most remote peach orchards with the help of a guidebook provided by event organisers.

Life's a peach.
