If you love animated film then don't miss Zagreb's Animafest, an annual event that showcases some of the world's greatest animators and filmmakers.
- When? 5th - 10th June 2017
- Where? Various venues, Zagreb

Forget Buzz and Woody's japes in Toy Story, Zagreb's World Festival of Animated Film (Animafest) offers far more visual fun. Running since 1972 this festival is one of the largest (and second oldest) in the world. It attracts filmmakers, animators and designers to this northern Croatian city for a week of creative talks, screenings and premieres.
The city is home to the Zagreb School of Animation and consequently has plenty of home grown talent to showcase. The event also attracts a global audience and features a huge range of animation genres including stop motion, CGI, traditional drawings and cartoons. For aspiring animation greats, the festival also hands out a prestigious Animafest Grand Prix award, which qualifies the winner for an Academy Award nomination.
Held across numerous locations in the city - including Cineplexx Kaptol, the Europa theatre plus many museums and galleries - Animafest is a visually stunning and proudly creative festival that spans different media platforms. Tickets (particularly for the awards show) often sell out quickly so get yours before they're gone. To Zagreb, and beyond!
- Get there: Fly to Zagreb and use public transport or taxis to get around the city.
- Stay: Base yourself near the city centre so you can easily travel between venues.
