When we think of huge events in celebration of sexual orientation, we think of Pride. Yet, as proven by the Queer Zagreb FM Festival, you don't need every colour of the rainbow to host a major gay event.
Emerging as one of Europe's biggest gay festivals, Queer Zagreb draws many people to the city (usually during the last few days of April) promoting equality regarding colour, race, religion and sexual orientation. World artists come from across Croatia and overseas to showcase their art which embraces alternative sexuality; you'll also find an array of theatre, dance and visual art events.
It might not be as lively as a Pride parade, but there's nobody stopping you from turning up in colourful attire (with a side of glitter of course).
- Get there: once you've arrived in Zagreb International, the shuttle service runs to town every half hour from 7 a.m. (excluding 7.30 a.m.) to the Zagreb main bus station.
- Stay: Zagreb is a walkable city so don't fret too much over location. Try centrally located Donji grad and Gornji grad (Downtown and Upper town).
