The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup comes to Zagreb in January featuring the Snow Queen Trophy.
Considering the Snow Queen Trophy features a men's and women's slalom race, you'd be forgiven for thinking the title was a little sexist. Yet, we're sure the guys won't mind being called a snow queen if they're winning in excess of €100,000.
This hugely popular event is part of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and comes to the slopes of Sljeme every January which is located just outside the capital. Running since 2005, it has become the most visited event on the World Cup's calendar and attracts a variety of people from keen skiers to the local public who create a buzzing atmosphere around the course. As such, a hefty prize pot awaits the winners of the trophy.
Hopefully you'll get some tips and take them to the slopes when you do some skiing of your own. You never know, maybe one day that prize money will be yours.
- Get there: Sljeme mountain is only a 20 minute car journey north of Zagreb's city centre so it's easily accessible if you want to watch the action.
- Stay: Book accommodation to the north of Zagreb to shorten the journey.
