The Limassol Wine Festival takes place during summer around a one hour drive from the capital of Nicosia.
Did someone say free wine? The Limassol Wine Festival you say? We'll see you there! This annual event may have a small entry fee but all the wine you'll drink here is free of charge. So if you find yourself in Cyprus during this 'dewine' event, you'd be mad to miss it.
On Cyprus' southern coastline sits the city of Limassol. It's just a mere one hour drive from the country's capital of Nicosia and is regarded by many as the 'wine capital of Cyprus' making it the most suitable place to host the hugely popular Wine Festival.
The festival dates back to 1961 when it was dedicated to the god of the grape harvest, wine-making and wine - Dionysos, and the goddess of beauty and love - Aphrodite, to pay homage to the island's wine-making tradition. Today it is well attended by Cypriot wineries, (usually) over ten days during late August and early September.
You'll find the event in the city park across the street from the waterfront. There are various types of Cypriot wine to taste, some of which are regarded by some among the best in Europe. With all the drinking, you'll be needing some food, but don't worry - a selection of tasty Cypriot food is available for purchase. Think traditional favourites like tzatziki, haloumi and hummus.
We're not sure about you but after a few glasses of wine, our dancing shoes are on; luckily visitors will also find a small stage hosting local entertainment such as live music and traditional dancing.
If you're visiting the festival from a nearby city, why not stay the night in Limassol and find a place to stay with Booking.com. After all, we doubt anyone who attends this festival is in any fit state to be driving home.
*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
