The Biarritz Surf Festival is Europe's biggest watersports event with contenders from across the globe hitting the surf during the week-long activities.
- When? TBC May 2018
- Where? Biarritz, France.
- Price: Free
Founded in 1993, the week-long Biarritz Surf Festival is probably the biggest event of its kind in Europe with up to 200,000 people attending and pro and amateur surfers from across the globe competing.
World-class competitors fight for trophies in long board events, while there are demos of all aspects of surfing including tandem, bodysurfing and those boats from Hawaii 5-0.
The tickets are free and there are plenty of opportunities for the public to try their hand at a variety of surfing activities and watersports.
And of course, the action doesn't stop when the surfers leave the water – that's when the party proper kicks in, dude, with bands, films, and assorted rave-ups through the night. Though we reckon these are best left to the under 30s.
- Get there: Fly to Biarritz then take a taxi to the town centre.
- Stay: Just five minutes from the beach is the Hotel De L'Océan; perfect for countless trips to the beach.
