- When? TBC October 2017
- Where? Throughout Lyon
- Price: keep an eye on the official website for 2017 dates and tickets.
Running since 2009, the Lumière Film Festival is one of Lyon's biggest cultural events. Held over eight days, the event celebrates classic cinema and welcomes around 150,000 film buffs to 371 screenings. We hope someone remembered to order the popcorn...
Now among the largest of its kind in the world, the festival celebrates historic films and iconic movie moments. Lyon, the birthplace of the Cinematograph, welcomes directors, actors, reviewers and editors throughout the week. A highlight is the Lumière award ceremony which is presented to an individual filmographer during the festival. The event is held across 60 city centre venues, including the huge Halle Tony Garnier plus dozens of smaller cinemas and theatres.
As well as screenings, Lumière Film Festival also hosts talks, workshops, a classic film market and masterclasses. Tickets go on sale in June and - particularly for opening and closing night - are often sell out events. Grab yours before they go and head to Lyon this October - just make sure you've stocked up on the necessary treats.
- Get there: Fly into Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport then use local buses and trams to get around the city.
- Stay: Find a hotel in the city centre so you can reach the various venues easily.
*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
