Every year, the city of Dresden in eastern Germany hosts the International Dixieland Festival. Around 30 bands from different countries across Europe, as well as accomplished musicians from Germany, travel to the city to perform for hundreds of thousands of spectators. There are around 40 concerts through the week and some great open-air events are located around the city and along the river Elbe. The whole city floods the streets, particularly at the weekend, where festival-goers embrace the buzzing atmosphere by drinking, dancing and eating at various venues.
Traditional spectacles include the Riverboat Shuffle on the river Elbe featuring the world's largest fleet of paddle-steamers which invite you to step aboard. Along the Prager Strasse Jazz Mile, stages are set up for acts to showcase their talent, where as live music can be heard in popular hot-spots such as Külz-Ring Feldschlößchen beer garden. At the end of the week, the Dixieland Festival finale takes place in the Old Town where a huge brass band parade can be heard throughout the city.
