Dresden, Germany

Wild, wacky and wondorous scenes greet visitors at Dresden's Scheune Schanbuden Sommer Festival. 10 days of music, theatre, circus acts and perhaps even a little magic, this is one not to miss.

  • When? 6th -16th July 2017
  • Where? NeustadtDresden
  • Price: €3 entry with additional costs for shows - see official website.

Roll up, roll up to one of the greatest shows on earth! If you like your festivals wackier than an Alice in Wonderland costume convention then head to Dresden's Scheune Schanbuden Sommer Festival. Held over ten days, this magical, immersive, musical extravaganza is a highlight on the city's cultural calendar. Top hats and animal costumes at the ready...

Held in Dresden's Neustadt, the festival spans ten days with different performances on each night. Beginning at 7pm every evening, visitors can enjoy everything from puppet shows and shamanic dancing to pop up theatres and clowning antics. Revellers need to buy passes for each event - you can also buy (discounted) multiple show tickets if you want to see several acts across the evening. If you last until midnight, there's also magical surprise to watch out for.

Each evening there are also traditional funfair rides, as well as several bars and music areas. With a quirky, electric and creative vibe, Scheune Schanbuden Sommer has a decidedly festival feel, especially at the after hour’s parties held into the small hours. Just remember, tickets are extremely popular so buying in advance is advised; we wouldn't want the eclectic mad hatters among you to be let down. Check out the official website for more details.

  • Get there: There's an extensive transport network in Dresden made up of buses, trams and S-Bahn trains.
  • Stay: Find a hotel in Neustadt or the Old Town to be in the middle of the action.
