Whether you're as fast as Bradley Wiggins or more of a tandem-for-two sort of cyclist, the Athens Bike Festival in September caters to all types of two-wheeled fans. Held over a weekend, the event attracts thousands of visitors from Greece's capital and beyond for a range of special events.
Held in the Technopolis (Gazi) Museum and cultural centre, the festival hosts workshops, demos, test rides, talks and more. Aimed at encouraging more Athenians to cycle, the event - in recent years - has grown in size and now has a quirky, festival feel, complete with food venues and live music sessions. Running from Friday evening and both days over the weekend, the event attracts around 35,000 people and hosts 62 tents plus 56 exhibitors.
Regardless of whether you're a cycling connoisseur or newbie novice, the Athens Bike Festival is a fun, active weekend, designed to promote the world of bikes. If you're in town pop in for an afternoon; who knows, you might leave with a brand new set of wheels.
