Mad for Mangoes? Join New Dehlians as they celebrate the 'King' of tropical fruits at the International Mango Festival. Founded in 1987, the event is held every year in either June or July in Dilli Haat, Pitampura and for just 100 Rupees you can eat as many mangoes as you like.
Feeling competitive? Try the mango eating competition but be sure to leave room to try the hundreds of mango-themed products that are on sale over the weekend. With everything from traditional chutney and pickles, to unusual delicacies such as aam papad - an Indian fruit leather made from mango pulp - tropical fruit lovers are sure to find something new to try.
Aside from eating, there is a long list of fun activities to get involved in such as mango carving, quizzes and mango folk performances. Famous Indian chefs also attend the event to showcase their talents, demonstrating new and fun ways to cook with the fruit.
This year's event in July has seen the Mango Festival undergo a transformation to become the Delhi Summer Festival. Delhi Tourism have combined the iconic Mango Festival with Sharbat Festival, a similar event that showcases a variety of summer drinks made from sharbat (otherwise known as sherbet), an aromatic syrup that is mixed with seeds and nuts to make a thirst-quenching summer treat in the hot weather.
Let mango mania take control as you over-dose on vitamin C and get that summer glow.
