Dust off your rainbow flag and get ready for Ireland's biggest pride celebration. Every year Dublin's LGBT community brings colour and vibrancy to the city when the annual Pride festival hits town. The highlight of the event is the Pride Parade (this is 24th June in 2017) which sees the streets come to life with colour: rainbow flags, glitter, sequins, feather boas and thousands of people dancing and shimmying to disco music.
While the parade is undoubtedly the highlight of Dublin Pride, there's a lot more going on. Dublin Pride initially began as a one-day celebration in 1983 but has since bloomed into an annual 10-day festival celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life and culture in the city and featuring a host of arts, social and cultural events.
The positive outcome of Ireland's 2015 referendum to legalise gay marriage has only added to the festivities, resulting in one of the biggest celebrations the city had seen. Whether you're gay, straight, bi or trans - come down for ten days of merriment and entertainment in the Irish capital. Rainbow flags aren't required, but make a lasting impression.
- Get there: Use public transport to get around the city.
- Stay: Book accommodation in the city centre so you'll be at the heart of the festivities.
