Forget messing around with Bunsen burners in double chemistry, Genoa's Science festival is far more fun. Thanks to its success in recent years, it returns once again and is set to be bigger than ever.
Hosted at various locations around the city, the fest is great for A-grade geeks as well as science novices, with 250 events across 70 different venues and spaces. Featuring a wealth of activities, shows, interactive displays, workshops and performances, the event also opens up several city laboratories for visitors to create their own experiments. Working with a number of institutes across Europe, there are also cross-disciplinary platforms including 'art-science' exhibitions, pop-ups, music events and films.
If your memory of science is the horrors of double physics on a Monday morning then think again. Genoa's Science Festival is a fun, inclusive and immersive event that will get even sceptical minds engaged. Just make sure you book to get a place at one of the events - tickets sales are faster than Stephen Hawking doing Sudoku.
- Get there: Genoa is well-connected via the subway, particularly near central areas. Rent a car and drive if you are travelling longer distances.
- Stay: Book accommodation on the waterfront, in areas like Carignano, Foce and Albaro.
