Hosting a wealth of international stars and niche local artists - Goa Boa Genoa is one of northern Italy's biggest and best music festivals, held in abandoned parts of the city.
Saying this festival's name, is almost as fun as going to it. Dubbed the 'greatest music festival in Liguria' Goa Boa Genoa is the city's most famous event on the musical calendar. Running since 1998, this cultural institution has been welcoming both internally famous and niche musicians for nearly two decades and the popular event attracts thousands of locals and visitors alike each year. With so many late night gigs and after parties, you'll need to hit the caffeine pretty hard to get through this July festival, but hey - when the party's this good, who needs to sleep?
Previous line-ups have included Paolo Nutini, Gorillaz Sound System, Beck, Groove Armada and Faithless. What makes Goa Boa Genoa especially unique is that it has traditionally used abandoned spaces in the city to host events and gigs - from office blocks to old steel mills. The Old Port (Port Antico) area is an amazing location close to the city centre that cries out to be partied in.
Tickets are reasonably priced but hot property, so make sure you book in advance to get a place. Genoa - a popular student city - also has plenty of budget sleeping options, bars and coffee shops (luckily for you); remember - you snooze, you lose.
- Get there: Fly to Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, it's a 10 minute drive to the Old Port.
- Stay: Book accommodation nearby in Molo or Carignano - both areas are served by the metro.
Visit the Goa Boa website for more information including ticket purchases.
