If you like your indie-rock with a side of culture then head to Sicily's Ypsigrock Festival this summer. Held in the small town of Castelbuono, this festival weekender offers a spectacular castle side setting, big name indie acts and beautiful countryside camping. Bellissimo!
This year, the festival celebrates its 20th birthday edition so expect some extra special tributes. The line-up features plenty to keep party goers happy, including Crystal Castles, The Vaccines, Daughter and Mudhoney. As well as the music, the setting of Ypsigrock deserves a mention. Headline acts play at the foot of Castelbuono Norman Castle in the medieval Piazza Castello. During the festival, the huge stone staircase that leads up to the castle is packed with revellers, thanks to its great views towards the stage.
If you plan to make a weekend of it, then nearby ypsicamping is offered - additional tickets are required. Nestled in the heart of Madonie Park, you can sleep off the night before among woodland, meadows and mountains. Castelbuono town itself is also idyllic, full of traditional Sicilian charm and plenty of local eateries. If you need a refresher after a day of dancing then head to the nearby northern Sardinian coast which is full of gorgeous beaches. You’ll be back to your cultural, music-loving migliore in no time.
- Get there: Palermo Airport (PMO) is nearby with a drive of just over 90 minutes to Castelbuono.
- Stay: Camping at the festival is a good option for overnight guests, as accommodation in Castelbuono will fill up fast.
