The Torino Film Festival - also known as the Turin Film Festival or simply TFF - is an international film festival held annually in Turin. Now in its 35th year, the event is held every November, and is the second largest film festival in Italy, following the Venice Film Festival.
So what’s the festival all about then? Well, according to the official website the event’s purpose is “to constitute a meeting point for contemporary international cinema and to provide the opportunity for a discussion on all its perspectives and artistic trends. The Festival pays particular attention to emerging cinemas and young filmmakers.”
The nine-day festival boasts an eclectic programme that is filled to the brim with screenings, competitions, talks and special events – all inspired by contemporary and international film. Its emphasis on supporting new people to the industry and showcasing emerging styles makes it a truly unique, inclusive and cutting-edge event.
The festival’s directors have included a host of famous Italian directors, such as Alberto Barbera, Stefano della Casa, Giulia d'Agnolo, Roberto Turigliatto, Nanni Moretti, Gianni Amelio and Paolo Virzì. Through these various stewardships, the event has transformed every year thanks to each director’s particular creative impulses, which is exciting to behold.
The festival transcends genre and embraces innovation, so you’re likely to see a broad range of cinema, one-off events and everything else in between. For film fans, it’s a must-attend.
