Are you suffering from a cultural drought? Was the last piece of 'cinema' you saw a cat being weird on YouTube? If so then never fear, the Tokyo Festival is here. Spanning almost two months this performing arts extravaganza brings together the very best of theatre, film, art, dance and music in different venues across the Japanese capital.
Transcending borders that usually limit art forms to one medium, the event aims to inspire collaboration and cooperation between artists. A huge range of different events take place including a outdoor festival with fairground rides, interactive art installations, outdoor theatre and flash dance mobs. Run in partnership with Tokyo's Arts Council the festival is held in several locations including the Metropolitan and Owispot theatres, Nishi-Sugamo Arts Factory and Ikebukuro Nishguchi Park.
Tickets are available via the festival's website and can be bought as one-offs or as multi passes. With so much on and dozens of performances we reckon it's easy to fit a show into your city break schedule; it's time to quench your cultural thirst.
- Get there: Use the subway to get around Tokyo - the network is extensive and will easily take you between venues.
- Stay: Book accommodation in the Bunkyo area of Tokyo.
