If you've partied hard in the capital of Vientiane, what better way to sort out your Beerlao hangover than eating your weight in food at the Lao Food Festival?
Usually falling at the end of January for two or three days, this annual food festival is normally located at Chao Anouvong Park attracting an array of both locals and tourists who come to sample a variety of delicious Lao cuisine. Running for over ten years, it has gone from strength to strength year after year, and with Laos bringing in more and more tourists than ever before, the next festival is sure to be bigger and better.
Now featuring over 100 booths, including some that sell a diverse number of goods, you're sure to find an authentic Lao dish for you. Much of the cuisine in the capital (and generally throughout Laos) is centred around sticky rice, soup or noodle-based dishes. Although, you can also expect a number of internationally influenced options on hand too including a number of delicious baguettes thanks to the country's French colonial past.
Previous years at the festival have also seen cooking competitions and demonstrations so make sure you bring your notepad if you're interested in cooking up some of the tasty fare back at home.
The whole event is organised by the Lao Businesswomen's Association who collaborate with the Lao Women's Union in an attempt to promote women's businesses (in relation to cooking and food) such as restaurants and cafes.
This food festival is your best chance to jump straight into Lao cuisine and sample a range of delicacies in one go. If you've hit the bars the night before, we suggest keeping an eye out for something spicy - sweating out those beers may help the hangover.
