Celebrating its 10th birthday in style, Positivus Festival is a three day chart topper weekender that welcomes artists from around the world.
11th birthday parties might evoke certain memories - ice-cream sugar rushes, dubious fancy dress and party bags. However Riga's Positivus Festival in July - which will be celebrating its 11th anniversary edition this year - is a bit cooler than your average pre-teen shindig. This three day weekender features big name artists from around the globe and attracts thousands of camping revellers annually.
The festival is located in Salacgrīva, around a hour and half's drive from Latvia's capital, Riga. The festival puts on shuttle buses to ferry festival-goers between the city and the event site - which enjoys a gorgeous coastal and countryside location. The middling-size of Positivus makes it chilled, relaxed and welcoming with plenty of chances to party into the small hours too.
Although the full programme for the 11th birthday edition has yet to be announced, previous artists include Ellie Goulding, Iggy Pop, Air, Hot Chip and Years and Years. Visitors can camp onsite (using tents or vans) so you can dance into the small hours before crashing out nearby. As well as several huge stages there are also some quirky festival extras, including a cinema, arts and crafts market and nature stage. Foodies can replenish their festival energy at the organic food court (or power through in the beer tent).
With more acts due to be released soon, Positivus Festival tickets are likely to sell out fast - get yours before they're gone. As 11th birthday parties go, this one is much cooler than ours ever were (although we always advocate wearing wacky fancy dress).
