Malta's annual International Fireworks Festival is arranged by the Ministry for Tourism and takes place towards the end of April, held in Valletta's Grand Harbour.
The island skies come to life as the festival gets underway and the spectacle draws thousands of locals and tourists to the waterfront.
A mini battle takes place between a number of fireworks producers as their performances in the sky are accompanied by music blasting across the seaside venue. The Grand Harbour offers a perfect view of the action. Known also as the Port of Valletta, Malta's Grand Harbour has a long history due in part to its strategic location, which has seen it in use for thousands of years.
