Amsterdam, Netherlands

Prepare a week of partying as Amsterdam celebrates Pride in true Dutch style.

  • When? 29th July - 6th August 2017
  • Where? Various locations, Amsterdam
  • Price: Free

In the height of summer, Amsterdam takes on a rainbow hue that can only mean one thing: Gay Pride. Don your most colourful outfit and take to the streets for nine days of revelry in the Dutch capital.

Amsterdam Gay Pride is one of the world's biggest prides and stretches over a week long with a series of street parties, pub crawls, club nights and all-round mayhem. The week climaxes with the unique Canal Parade, where a flotilla of 80 brightly decorated boats sail down the Prisengracht while overdressed boys and girls strut their stuff topside.

The agenda has been set for 2017, and many well-loved events are present in the lineup. The festival begins with the Pride Park & Pride Walk, followed by Pride at the Beach, an open air cinema, the Senior Pride Concert and the aforementioned Canal Parade. What's more, revellers can even attend a closing party on the 6th of August in Dam Square.

A few things will be changing for the 2017 edition of the festival however; previous pride locations are being scrapped, and the party is moving closer to Dam Square and its surrounding areas to reduce overcrowding. It won't make a difference if you've never been before, but for those expecting greatness from Rembrandt Square... you'll be sorely disappointed.

It's not one of the world's biggest prides for nothing: if there's one thing 'Dam knows how to do, it's throw a pretty good party.

  • Get there: Take the train to Amsterdam Centraal Station - you can be there in 30 minutes straight from the airport.
  • Stay: Book accommodation around Dam Square to be nearby, or try Rembrandt Square if you're looking for a quieter stay.
