Running since the mid 70s, the North Sea Jazz Festival has become one of the most highly anticipated music events in Rotterdam's annual calendar.
When the North Sea Jazz Festival first debuted in 1976, it attracted some 9,000 visitors. Today it's more popular than ever before, pulling in around 70,000 people to its Rotterdam location, thanks to an enviable star studded line up. In recent years it's become one of the biggest music festivals in the Netherlands - jazz hands at the ready.
After moving to Rotterdam in 2006 in order to cope with the festival's ever-growing popularity, this weekend-long event is one to look out for this summer. With over 1000 musicians, more than 150 performances and 13 different stages, the North Sea Jazz Festival is set for another huge year. It's backed by several big-name sponsors and has people flocking to Rotterdam from across the continent to see internationally acclaimed artists.
While the event is ultimately a jazz fest, you can also catch some different genres which adds variety to proceedings. Whilst the lineup for 2017 has not been announced yet, 2016 saw performances from the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire, Level 42, Miguel, Simply Red, The Roots plus international superstar Pharrell Williams. This jazz extravaganza has slapped a high price on tickets for the three days but with the top talent on show, we think it's good value for money.
We expect an electric atmosphere at this year's North Sea Jazz Festival alongside plenty of drinking, eating and dancing. And with all the beer and fast food tents to accompany the summer sounds, you'd better do more than just jazz hands to work out after attending.
