We hope you've remembered to grab some popcorn and a super-sized drink, Cebu International Film Festival (CEBU.IFF) is returning for its third year in August 2017 and you won't want to miss it.
CEBU.IFF is technically three film events coming together as one. The Cebu International Documentary Film Festival (CIDFF) and Cebu Film Market Expo (CFMx) make up the other two parts of CEBU.IFF, so there's plenty on offer to suit the average film buff. CIDFF shows long and short documentaries as well as hosting a Rotary Documentary Film Challenge. CFMx on the other hand, is more based on the pre-production side of film. They have a pitching forum, seminars and workshops, along with the Cebu Film Market & Broadcast Expo.
CFMx often takes place before the opening night of CIDFF, as it gives opportunities for companies in the media and film industries to promote their proucts and services and helps them gain visibility at the 2-day exhibition. The Opening Night of CEBU.IFF and CIDFF kicks off with a cocktail gathering and an exclusive screening event that invites all the participants to join alongside production companies, film critics and guests.
The festival aims to engage local and global communities in discussion throughout moving image, encouraging diversity and creativity and with screenings taking place throughout the city there's plenty to be getting involved with. Feature length narratives, narrative shorts and animations are on offer, so we've no doubt you'll find a film that suits your tastes.
It wouldn't be a film festival if there were no awards on offer, and CEBU.IFF has plenty for all kinds of entrants. There are international and Philippines-only awards for Best Feature Length Narrative, Best Narrative Short, Best Actor and Best Actress. One-off awards include Best Animated Film, Best Student Film and Best Children's Animation, but perhaps the most renowned award is Best of the Fest, which spans all genres and styles.
Just don't forget to bring the popcorn, it wouldn't be a movie night without it.
