If your idea of heaven is a marathon movie weekend when you only leave the sofa to fetch more popcorn, then Warsaw Film Festival is one to put in the diary. Attracting a wealth of filmmakers, producers, directors and big screen fans, this nine day event showcases both home grown and international talent.
Located in several different cinemas and auditoriums throughout the city, the festival includes plenty of work by up-and-coming Polish filmographers (often by recently graduated film students). The event also hands out a smattering of prestigious awards and many winners have gone on to win highly rated accolades at the likes of Cannes and Montreal. There's an eclectic mix of 'sections' within the festival, all aiming to showcase different genres of cinema. These include shorts, classics, discoveries, free spirit and documentaries.
The festival attracts visitors from across Poland and beyond so step away from the popcorn and book tickets well in advance if you're planning a trip. Hey, it beats lying on the sofa all day.
