Time to run off that Christmas turkey and all those festive goodies. Falling in March, the Lisbon Half Marathon is the perfect way to kick-start your fitness fix in preparation for hitting the beach in summer.
For more than 20 years, the Lisbon Half Marathon has attracted thousands of participants every year to the Portuguese capital to take part in a memorable and challenging 13 mile run. Applicants range from the average nine to five worker to a selection of top-class athletes.
This particular half marathon is best known for its scenic route which runs across the 25th of April Bridge for over two kilometres as it crosses the Tagus River. The majority of the course is flat which has helped make it one of the fastest in the world; several half marathon world records have been broken here.
Be sure to register nice and early to avoid disappointment. Once you've finished you can feel less guilty about all that Christmas pudding you ate a few months back.
- Get there: Head south from Lisbon city centre and you'll reach the 'Ponte 25 de Abril' - the 25th of April Bridge.
