If you've ever fancied yourself as a bit of a mermaid (which, let's face it, would be pretty awesome) then we've got the perfect festival for you to enjoy. Held across the summer months each year, usually around August, Lisbon's Oceans Festival celebrates everything sea related, from boating to marine life, floating parades to water sports.
Located around Parque das Nações, this much-loved fest celebrates Lisbon's ties to the sea and is one of the city's biggest seasonal festivals. With hundreds of different events, competitions, performances and shows, you'll be hard pushed to fit it all in but if you manage just one thing, make it a cruise along the beautiful Douro River. If you're lucky, your trip might also coincide with one of the spectacular firework displays or shows in the Centro Histórico.
Whether you're a water baby or land-lover there is plenty on and around the water to keep you busy. Most events are free, although it's a good idea to book accommodation early as this is a popular time to visit the city. So go on, water-you waiting for?!
- Get there: Fly into Lisbon Airport and get around using the metro or the train.
- Stay: Accommodation books up fast, so reserve early or be prepared to travel from further afield.
*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
