Handy in the kitchen? Bring your notepad and listen up at this sizzling event's live cooking demonstrations. Any chef worth his salt will want to pick up some tips from fellow professionals doing their thing in the hawker stalls and pop up restaurants at the Singapore Food Festival.
Dynamic workmanship and culinary heritage permeates the Singapore food scene. In many ways, a food festival here is a celebration of a hybrid food culture, a crossover of culinary traditions. Sip steamy laksa broths of prawns, cockles, coconut milk and vermicelli pasta, eyeball a red snapper in a fish head curry or swab delicate morsels of oyster omelette in chilli vinegar.
The 2016 theme, 'Savour the Past, Taste the Future' inspired STREAT, the signature event and pop up restaurant, to serve modernised takes on street food favourites. With modern cocktails and luxury teas bringing a new edge to the dishes, culinary experimentation is always a hit with visitors. Elsewhere, The 50 Cents Fest authenticated an entire street into 1950's and 1960's style, dishing up pigs trotters in vinegar and UFO oyster cakes. Take a look at the glut of food tributaries all over town here.
Whether you eat to live or live to eat there's a flavour to turn your head here. Just don't forget a pen and paper.
