Jazz hands at the ready: Bratislava's Jazz Days Festival arrives once again to the Slovakian capital this October. Celebrating all things jazz, the event showcases a range of different genres and an eclectic mix of globally renowned musicians and performers.
Bratislava Jazz Days (or BLD as it is known locally) has been held since 1975 and has become a firm fixture on the city's cultural and artistic calendar. The events and evenings which span several days incorporate everything from free and rock jazz to funk and fusion. Musicians travel from around the globe (particularity from the US) to perform; artists who have performed at the festival in recent years include Snarky Puppy, Gregory Porter and Fourplay. Many acts include Grammy nominated or award-winning stars.
Grab a glass of red from one of the many bars and soak up the vibrant atmosphere - the festival attracts Bratislava's glittering cultural elite. If you're planning on attending you'll need to book fast as tickets are likely to sell out. After all, jazz is all about those nimble manoeuvres.
- Get there: To reach Bratislava, fly into Bratislava airport or take the train to the main station or Petrzalka station.
- Stay: Check out accommodation in the Old Town as most events take place in that area.
