The Circuit de Catalunya in beautiful Barcelona provides the perfect setting to lap up the thrills and spills of this nerve-shredding, high-octane weekend of motor sport. The track is located in Montmeló, just half an hour north-east of the buzzing Catalonian capital but within its metropolitan area. And the journey is made even more convenient by the handy race track transfers put on by the organisers over the weekend – ensuring you don’t miss any of the action.
The Spanish Grand Prix is a firm favourite among Formula One fans and one of the oldest races in the world still contested today - having celebrated its centenary year in 2013. Despite its modest beginnings as a production car race, the modern version has been a regular part of the Formula One World Championship since its return in 1967 from forced hiatus as a result of the Spanish civil war. Particularly in the last ten years, with the success of hometown favourite Fernando Alonso captivating a whole new generation of fans.
With the buoyant carnival atmosphere on the grandstands, clear-blue skies and, of course, the electrifying bellow as the cars zip by, the Spanish Grand Prix is undoubtedly a highlight of the Formula One calendar – and potentially yours too. Tickets go almost as fast as the cars, so put your foot down to avoid missing out!
- Get there: From Barcelona city centre, Montmeló is a half hour drive if you're looking to rent a car, or an hour if you take the bus.
- Stay: We recommend booking accommodation in Barcelona, but if you're visiting the Grand Prix for more than a couple of days it could be worth looking in Montmeló. Just be aware that hotels will have increased prices.
