Raving with tigers, lions and bears might sound crazy but that's Zoo Project. Ibiza's iconic one-of-a-kind event is one of the only places in the world where you can unleash your inner animal and essentially... rave in a zoo.
Every summer, holidaymakers from around Europe come to experience one of the world's best clubbing destinations, and Zoo Project is always at the top of the list. Top class DJs are to be expected, keeping the decks spinning right up until midnight. But for party-goers, there's more to this event than the array of world-class talent that comes to perform here.
Firstly, its unique location; Zoo Project takes place in an abandoned zoo where four outdoor arenas of music and performance provide variety across a large space that also features a swimming pool, BBQ and a number of market stalls and bars. Go crazy in the legendary Seal Pit or enjoy the surroundings in the Mandala Garden. The re-emergence of the outdoor party means Zoo Project is bigger than ever and its open-air daytime vibe creates a buzzing festival atmosphere that's difficult to find in any Ibiza club.
The second factor which makes this event a sell-out every week is the body painting which has become synonymous with the occasion. Although it's not compulsory, before the event people flock to the nearest hotel or shop where artists paint on their favourite animal design. You can choose how much of your body you want painted and come five o'clock, Zoo Project is a picture of brightly coloured party animals drinking and dancing the day away.
The event is said to be personified by performance, art, music, spirituality and design, so you can also expect weird and wonderful displays and a selection of inspiring interactive performances to add to the music and party vibe. From Unicycling Gorillas to Pop-up Mad Hatters Tea Parties, Zoo Project knows how to put on a show.
So you might not be dancing with a real tiger but you'll find a lot more party animals here than in your local nightclub.
- Get there: Nearly all taxi drivers will know where to go if you ask for 'the zoo' (in case the costume hadn't already given it away) so this is the easiest way to travel.
- Stay: Book accommodation nearby so you don't have far to travel - Sant Antoni de Portmany is the closest town.
