Professional tennis players will know they usually need to pull a rabbit out of a hat to beat Djokovic, Federer, Murray and Nadal to a major. But maybe there's more hope at Madrid's Caja Magica Stadium (known as the magic box), where the world's best tennis players compete for the Mutua Madrid Open title.
Every year, Spain's capital city hosts one of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year attracting high profile celebrities and sports players to watch from the stands. The Mutua Madrid Open sees tennis' top stars stars battle it out on an all clay surface in hope of winning the top prize of around one million euros. Last year saw Britain's Andy Murray lift the trophy, where as Spain's very own Rafael Nadal has won the title no less than four times over the last 11 years.
The tournament is classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event and will see tennis fans from across the world travel to Madrid to embrace the sporty atmosphere. Caja Magica holds 12,500 spectators and will be the hottest ticket in town during the first week of May. For those who can't get a ticket to the main stadium, the other clay courts will still host some top level matches on route to the finals and thousands will fill the surrounding grounds in typical tournament fashion.
Will this be the year we see a new name on the Madrid Open trophy? Nadal's name is on the trophy again - it's about time someone rescued that rabbit from the hat.
- Get there: Fly into Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport and use the metro to get around the city. The nearest station to the stadium is Embajadores - Depuradora la China.
- Stay: Book accommodation in the city centre if you only plan on attending the open for a couple of days, but look for accommodation in San Fermín or Entrevías if you're going to be there the whole time.
