With the motto 'Follow the Sun', the Palma de Mallorca Marathon is your chance to combine sun and sports this October.
When stepping off the plane into the warm Spanish sunshine, lacing up your trainers to run a marathon is probably at the bottom of your to-do list. But between the all-inclusive breakfast buffet and bottomless cocktails you might feel like burning off some of those extra calories, so listen up.
The Palma de Mallorca Marathon is scheduled to take place on Sunday 15th October in 2017, with other race-related events and activities happening across the course of the long weekend. With temperatures hovering around 20 degrees Celsius, you’ll be able to build up a sweat without feeling too overwhelmed.
There are options for all ages and abilities with the shorter half marathon and 10k race giving intermediate runners the chance to improve their times before taking on a marathon in the future. There’s also a ‘Palma Kids Run’ for children between the ages of two and twelve, which takes place the day before the main race and is free to enter, so you can easily make the weekend a family event. Walkers and Nordic walkers can get involved in the 10k race, but are given a separate start time to the runners.
Get in early for cheaper registration fees, as prices are almost double if you leave it until the month before. Check the official website for full price details.
The weekend kicks off on the Friday with a Breakfast Run to get participants warmed up for the big race on Sunday. Across Friday and Saturday, runners must collect their race packs at the Expo Event and can then enjoy the pasta party in the evening to fuel up for the main event.
Departing from the Parc de la Mar, in front of the Catedral de Mallorca, full and half marathon runners leave at 9.00 a.m. followed by 10k runners half an hour later. The route features coastal and city views including iconic sights such as the Castell De Bellver and Es Baluard.
The first five male and female finishers will receive trophies and all participants will be given a certificate with their race time, which is recorded using Champion chip timing. The award ceremonies take place in the early afternoon before the event wraps up at 3.00 p.m. Be sure to take advantage of the free massages at the end of the route as well the free showers and transport.
At 7 p.m. runners and their families can attend the post-race party at the Mega Park, with a free beer and hot dog handed out to all race participants.
Book a hotel in the centre of Palma de Mallorca so you can enjoy the local nightlife afterwards - the only race you'll need to think about then is a cocktail drinking marathon.
*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
