While we all love a good dance off, may we advise keeping your best moves under wraps if you visit Kandy's Art Association and Cultural Centre's Dance Season? Although the nightly shows are held throughout the year, it's during the busy tourist months that the lively entertainment creates an atmosphere, with some of Sri Lanka's best performers taking to the stage.
Plate juggling and puppets to local movement rituals and story-telling, the traditionally attired troupes stun audiences with their array of creative shows. Offering incredibly cheap tickets, the events showcase the very best of Sri Lankan performing art, with a few modern twists along the way. There's also an attached handicraft room and workshop which offer tours.
The music that accompanies the performers is played according to local methods and rhythms, so expect some truly mesmerising sounds. Just make sure you leave it to the professionals okay? No one wants to see your interpretation of the running man.
- Get there: The area is well-connected with buses, so take a bus from your accommodation to the centre.
- Stay: Book accommodation to the west of the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary to be nearby.
