Race through the night in fancy dress or just enjoy the show from the sidelines.

- Where? Södermalm, Stockholm
- Price: 445 SEK
In the middle of August, Stockholm's streets are lined with sweaty brows as thousands of runners take part in the Midnattsloppet, or 'Midnight Race'.
Those brave enough to take on the nighttime challenge in Södermalm must run a total distance of 10KM, but there's plenty of onlookers around to cheer them on as they zoom past outdoor music performances, samba sessions and food and drink stalls.
Runners can contribute to the Masquerade Competition by dressing up for their big race, and prizes are awarded for the most chuckle-worthy outfits.
Of course, you don't have to be running in the race to enjoy the event. For less athletic folk, cheering on the runners as the sun goes down over Stockholm will still be a memorable experience.
- Get there: The race starts in Ringvägen which is by the Skanstull station so you can easily take the train from the city centre.
- Stay: Find accommodation in Södermalm to be nearby.
