Rio meets the city of Liverpool during Brazilica; a weekend festival packed with the music, sounds, tastes, colours and culture of Brazil.

Prepare for booty shaking action. Liverpool's annual Brazilica is an International Samba Festival which brings thousands onto the city streets, igniting a true carnival atmosphere thanks to an entertaining programme of Brazilian inspired events.

After debuting in 2008, Brazilica has become a highly anticipated event for Liverpudlians and those who visit the city during July. The weekend will include a variety of events which will prove to be the festival's biggest and most entertaining programme to date. Unless you can afford a holiday to Brazil, there's no better place to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of South America's largest country during this July weekend.

This year's programme will include a Fringe Festival complete with a range of exhibitions and workshops, a returning Brazilian Film Festival (thanks to its popularity in 2015) plus lots of tasty food and drink stalls. However, Carnival Day will undoubtedly be the main attraction packed with Brazilian music, dance and costumes, plus a night-time parade featuring talented Samba bands from across the country and overseas. The route will run from Abercrombie Square through the city centre so be sure to arrive early for a good spot.

And if you're thinking of busting out some parade-side moves in line with the dancing on show, you'd better get started on those squats.

  • Get there: Take the train to Liverpool Central station or fly into Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
  • Stay: Check out accommodation along the docks for a picturesque stay.
