If you're in Southport for the first weekend in October and expected a few quiet evenings, you might as well forget an early night. Instead, swap your fancy dinner date for fish and chips and head out to enjoy the British Musical Fireworks Championships. Running Friday to Sunday, this three day event isn't your average firework spectacle and is the only competition of its kind in the UK.
Over the weekend, pyrotechnic companies battle it out in hope of becoming the British Musical Fireworks champion. Spectators are treated to incredible performances which incorporate music and showcase innovative use of fireworks. The result are fantastic displays which have taken months to co-ordinate and produce. Industry experts judge each spectacle based on everything from mood and effects, to overall design and choreography.
Both seating and standing tickets are available for purchase. And don't worry, things should finish up around 10pm so you can still get your beauty sleep.
- Get there: Drive or take the train from Liverpool Central to Southport.
- Stay: Check out accommodation in either Liverpool or Southport city centre.
