Manchester hosts the biggest Chinese New Year celebration outside of London, where approximately 90,000 people gather to take part in the festivities.
The whole area comes alive with people ambling around the food stalls to sample the delights of Chinese cuisine. There's also the headline grabbing dragon parade that begins in Albert Square and makes its way through the city centre.
After the parade there'll be a bevy of traditional lion dancers, martial arts displays (just don’t volunteer for any demonstrations) and spectacular Chinese acrobatics around Chinatown. You'll also find a funfair with over 20 rides on Charlotte Street and a spectacular fireworks finale that begins at around 6 p.m.
- Get there: You can fly to Manchester or the drive from London will take around 4.5 hours.
- Stay: Book accommodation in the Northern Quarter or in Spinningfields to be nearby.
