Are you the kind of traveller that needs an extra suitcase for all the cool, unique trinkets you collect along the way? Brace yourself for Alexandria's annual art festival.
Need a new painting to go above the mantelpiece? Or a sculpture to fill the empty corner of the dining room? Maybe you're an art-hoarder and have a spare room dedicated to relics you pick up from around the world? Whatever you need, you'll find it at Alexandria's annual arts festival.
King Street Art Festival is a two-day event which sees local and international artists gather to showcase their work giving you the opportunity to buy everything from one-of-a-kind paintings to life-sized sculptures. Bring a big suitcase.
Spanning six blocks along the main street of Alexandria, this festival takes over town to leave residents and tourists feeling inspired and their pockets a little empty.
Visit the Torpedo Factory Art Centre if you enjoy a more interactive experience. With 82 open studios for you to wander through, you can watch artists at work and chat to them about how they find their inspiration and motivation. If you want to try your hand at creating your own work of art then head along to the DIY station and see if you could be the next Picasso.
If that isn't reason enough to visit, the Ice Cream Bowl fundraiser is sure to attract those with a sweet tooth and a kind heart. Organised by the local Art League, this event raises money for the ceramics department by selling their hand-made ceramic bowls together with ice-cream for only $15.
Now in its fifteenth year, the arts festival is still a firm favourite with locals and visitors to Alexandria. The event may be free to attend but if you're an art-lover and can tell expressionism from futurism then you'll need deep pockets for this sketch-tacular event.
