We don't know about you but despite becoming adults, the sound of the ice-cream man coming down the road is still music to our ears. Luckily at Travioor, we have the scoop on all the best festivals in the US and that includes the Ice Cream Festival in the city of Atlanta every July. No need to wait for the ice-cream man here where a never-ending selection of frozen treats await.
Held usually on a Saturday in July, this festival has been attracting thousands of visitors since it first debuted back in 2010 with an aim to ignite family fun in the community. It takes place at The Meadows at Piedmont Park, one of the city's most popular open spaces.
Obviously the star attraction of the festival is ice cream with a variety of local and national vendors offering super-tasty selections including a number of specially created flavours for the event; expect anything from your standard chocolate and vanilla to strawberry cheesecake, almond fudge and butterscotch. Or if you prefer an ice lolly, you can expect a number of those too.
One of the biggest events at the festival is the Ice Cream Eating Competition which sees people of all ages brave the brain freeze to be crowned ice-cream eating champion.
Ironically, despite all the sweet treats, the festival aims to promote a balanced lifestyle and puts on a series of health and wellness engagement activities including yoga classes, hula hoop competitions and jump rope fun, as well as a variety of fitness routines and even free wellness screenings which are offered at no charge to the public. The physical activities are generally well received by visitors (probably those who feel guilty about eating a little too much ice-cream).
Live entertainment will also feature with a line-up of talented local artists and bands performing for the crowd. While you're not listening to the music or feasting on the ice-cream, you can also take a wander and check out an array of stalls selling a selection of gifts and goods.
All this extra stuff being said, there's one big reason why thousands attend this festival. We'll leave you to figure that out. Clue: it's certainly not for the fitness classes.
