Let there be light! Lighting up Baltimore's Inner Harbour this April is Light City, the first large-scale international light festival in the United States. Featuring a one and a half mile light art walk with 28 large scale light installations, Light City attracted over 400,000 visitors across its nine day period in 2016.
Back in 1816, Baltimore was the first city to use gas lanterns to illuminate its streets. 200 years later, light brightens the streets of Baltimore once more. With light displays including everything from fountains to sculptures, video projections creating truly unique pieces of art and interactive technologies creating innovative ways for visitors to interact with art, Light City is a treat for Baltimore residents and visitors alike.
From parades to performances and concerts, Light City is more than just a light art event. Six days of conferences also span the festival. With 2016s conference offerings covering social, health and sustainability innovation, the festival is as much about the city of Baltimore as it is about the art itself.
Last year's event saw performances with uniquely curated live music shows, pulling artists from Baltimore's own music scene to perform. If one-of-a-kind art and local music are your thing, you won't want to miss this opportunity to see Baltimore in a whole new light.
