'Beer before wine, you'll be fine. Wine before beer, oh dear.' Or so says the famous drinking advice. If you're off to the Georgia Vines Beer and Wine Festival you might not have a choice in the matter. This is Columbus' annual celebration of locally brewed beverages and uptown eateries that sees grapes and hops paired side by side.
Once you've grabbed your souvenir sample cup, start making your way through the various vintages, kegs and Georgia themed food trucks. There are over 100 different beers and wines to choose from so you'll have plenty of chances to find your favourite. There's also a live music set (2016 featured The Weeks, an indie rock group from Mississippi) and you can watch zip liners lunge across the Chattahoochee River.
Tickets are in limited supply; the event usually releases around 1500. Although they'll set you back a hefty $45, this includes unlimited sampling of the beers and wines, live music and a complementary mug. They can be purchased through The Springer Opera House Box Office and we recommend you get your hands on them sooner rather than later. Early birds can also take advantage of the Save Water, Drink Beer package that includes a rafting trip with WhiteWater Express, early entry into the festival and lunch for just 60 dollars.
So throw the worry worm idioms out of the window and immerse yourself in this booze-filled celebration - hangover, scmangover.
- Get there: Columbus Metropolitan Airport is the closest airport.
- Stay: Most hotels are located around the main state highway so they're easy to reach.
