Lasers, lights and Electronic Dance Music - Night Nation Run isn't your average 5k race.
- When? TBC 2017
- Where? Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas
- Price: TBC
We usually leave festivals with an inevitable sense of lethargy. Three days of sweating our socks off in mosh pits, consuming stodgy burgers of dubious quality and drinking our weight in lovely lukewarm beer. Mmmm. Not so at Arlington's Night Nation Run Festival, where the vibe is decidedly more fresh and sporty.
Coining itself 'the world's first running music festival' the event sees participants race through a 5k route that features lights, lasers and plenty of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). As well as top DJs spinning classics for race-goers there are also live music sets along the way to keep things energetic. Track-side, different stages and areas dot the path, offering runners the chance to make pit stops for a mini rave or party.
On top of the dedicated dance areas there are also several quirky race-side extras, including light shows, dancing podiums, glow gear giveaways and selfie stations (perfect for that sweaty mid-race look; nailed it).
As well as offering an alternative musical experience from your average fun run, participants are encouraged to ditch traditional means of competing (expect dancing, hopping and skipping as well as running). Held in various towns across the U.S.A. to date, Night Nation Run has welcomed around one million people since its launch - Arlington (a suburb half an hour's drives from Dallas' centre) remains one of the biggest and the best.
If the 5k run sounds a bit too much like exercise and not enough like a festival, then fear not; the mammoth after party around the main stage at the finish line is of epic proportions. As well as a host of EDM DJs expect a few surprise and very special guests too...
If you weren't convinced enough, then did we mention that the run is all for a good cause? The event's official charity is Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) and through participating you are helping contribute to ground-breaking research and investment (Yay! Good deed!).
So forget spending £10 on a grimy burger and being squashed at the entrance of a tent in the pouring rain - get yourself to Night Nation Run for an evening of fitness and fun (with plenty of Electronic music too). You'll feel much better the morning after.
- Get there: The venue is between Dallas and Fort Worth so we recommend driving or taking a taxi to the venue. You'll be doing enough running once you're there.
- Stay: Book accommodation in either Dallas or Forth Worth.
