Show your Irish pride and join the army of green that marches down Greenville Avenue, Dallas at the St Patrick's Day Parade and Festival. With over 125,000 people in attendance, this festival is not for the faint-hearted. Leprechaun hats, shamrock scarves and giant green floats are just some of the sights you will see as you parade down the 2-mile stretch beginning at Blackwell Street.
The parade is organised by the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association (GAABA) with proceeds going to the GAABBA scholarship programme, which has previously raised more than $72,500 for Dallas ISD students, so you can drink your pint of Guinness in the knowledge that you're giving back to the local community.
The celebrations usually begin around 11 a.m. when the parade will commence, giving the float creators a chance to show off their hard work. The event becomes somewhat of a street party in the afternoon with local restaurants, bars and music venues joining in on the fun. Look out for special 'St Patty's Day' offers on food and drinks with some restaurants creating special dishes for the event.
2015 saw the arrival of Brew Fest, the latest addition to the festival located in the parking lot of the nearby Office Depot. Featuring craft beer stands, food trucks, exhibitor booths and a DJ station, the Brew Fest is the perfect place to party once you've walked in the parade.
Let's hope green is your colour.
