If you love lobster, don't miss Key West's annual Lobsterfest in August celebrating the start of lobster season.
- When? 10th - 13th August 2017
- Where? Duval Street, Key West
- Price: Free entry but events are priced separately.
Perhaps the closest some of us have been to a lobster festival is when we're greeted with lobster-looking Brits on a beach when abroad. However, luckily for those who are visiting Key West in August, you can experience a proper one at Lobsterfest, where we can guarantee the lobsters look a great deal better than the group of lads who didn't take mum's advice to use sunscreen.
August marks the beginning of lobster season in the Keys and the people of Key West celebrate it with an epic four day and night festival (mainly along Duval Street). The island is known for its delicious seafood dishes and lobster is one of the most popular choices.
Across the long weekend, a series of events (some which you will need a ticket to attend) usually include a bar crawl, street fair and a free concert. Yet, of course the festival is predominantly all about the tasty food with an array of vendors and exhibitors presenting a selection of lobster dishes and treats.
As expected, Saturday and Sunday are the busiest days with an electric atmosphere sweeping the island. Just remember that Lobsterfest takes place during the summer so make sure you top up that sunscreen; lobster should never eat lobster.
- Get there: Fly to Key West International Airport - it's a 13 minute drive to Duval Street.
- Stay: Key West is a small island, so book accommodation wherever.
