SnowFest is every ski bum's paradise (and it's still a pretty good event even if you don't actually ski too). With 100 events taking place over 10 fun-filled days, visitors can see everything from parades and firework displays to concerts and ice-cream eating contests. There are of course some on-snow events too, with plenty of ski races to take part in.

The initial SnowFest took place in 1982 in order to encourage more people to the area in the 'off-season', and in turn provide an opportunity for locals to enjoy Tahoe at its best. Now in its 36th year, the event has since been named as one of the top 100 events in the US and one of the top 10 events in California.

One of the main events of the festival is choosing the Snow Queen. Each year local non-profit organisations sponsor a potential snow queen to raise money for SnowFest and local schemes. The queen is chosen based on a variety of factors, including her GPA and performances in both an essay and an interview.

Of course, no ski event would be complete without après-ski and SnowFest caters to the masses with plenty of wining and dining on offer throughout its establishments. So we guess what we're saying is that you don't necessarily have to know how to ski - just go and enjoy the après-ski. At least you won't have to worry about getting cold when you've got your beer jacket on.

  • Get there: Fly to Lake Tahoe then make your way to the mountains.
  • Stay: There are plenty of places to stay in the area, so you'll be able to find your perfect accommodation.

Visit the SnowFest! website for more information.

*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
