Fancy having a cultural celebration in Hawaii with a side of nature? Look no further than the annual Whale and Ocean Arts Festival on Hawaii's Maui Island. Held every March, this creative fest is all about celebrating marine life, the arts and cultural traditions. Oh, and it's held on one of the Pacific's most beautiful islands. Bonus.
Maui's traditional village of Lahaina is the perfect setting for the event, evoking a sense of traditional Hawaiian life, which includes this island state's dependence on the sea. And really, that's what this event is all about; artists celebrate the ocean with marine-inspired artworks while local handicrafts are painted in hues of sea green and coastal blues. The festival began as a way of celebrating the annual return of humpbacked whales to Hawaii's waters - today it has grown into a creative festival that also celebrates Maui's traditions and customs. As well as talks from leading whale-watchers and biologists, they'll also be a chance to shop for local goods, sample home-cooked food and watch hula dancers perform customary routines. There's also face-painting, lei-making and a keiki art competition for children to get involved in.
If you're a fan of nature, culture and art, this is one event you don't want to miss; throw in the amazing tropical location and we're sure you'll have a whale of a time.
